4.1 magnitude earthquake hits Assam

A 4.1 magnitude earthquake struck the North Garo Hills district of Meghalaya on the morning of February 20, sending brief waves of panic through the region. The tremors, recorded at 11:32 am IST, were also felt in parts of Assam, including the city of Guwahati.

The epicenter of the earthquake was pinpointed at coordinates 25.87°N, 90.70°E, with a shallow depth of just 5 kilometers. Shallow quakes typically result in more pronounced shaking at the surface. Fortunately, there have been no reports of damage or injuries from either Meghalaya or Assam.

While the northeastern region is prone to seismic activity, this particular tremor was classified as low-intensity.
