Wild elephants kill one elderly person in Kokrajhar

Human-elephant conflict continues in Kokrajhar, as an elderly person was trampled to death by a wild elephant today morning at Salakati Murabari in Kokrajhar district. Two wild elephants arrived at Salakati Murabari area this morning from Ripu Reserve forest Ultapani along the Indo-Bhutan border area and attacked the elderly person.

The injured person succumbed in Kokrajhar RNB civil hospital who was immediately rushed to the hospital and was identified as Berlang Brahma( Prasanna Brahma) of Murabari village. He was 75. Forest department officials and police rushed to the spot and tried to disperse the wild elephant. Sidli MLA Jayanta Basumatary also visited the spot and met family members of late Brahma. He has urged the forest department officials and district administration for safety measures for the common masses in the area.

A strong security vigil has been made along the Murabari area. The local people urged the forest department officials to take steps to disperse the wild elephant from the area
