The Employees’ State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) added 22.53 lakh new workers under its ESI Scheme in July 2024, according to provisional payroll data released on Friday.
The data indicates that 10.84 lakh of these new registrations, nearly 48%, were employees aged 25 or younger, underscoring the scheme’s growing relevance among the youth.
Also, the gender-wise analysis of the payroll data indicates that the net enrolment of female members was 4.65 lakh in the ESI Scheme during the month. Besides, a total of 71 transgender employees were also registered, highlighting ESIC’s efforts to extend social security benefits to diverse sections of the workforce.
The month also saw 56,467 new establishments come under the ESI Scheme’s social security umbrella, ensuring protection for more employees across industries. This represents a year-on-year growth of 13.32% in net registrations compared to July 2023.
The payroll data is provisional since the data generation is a continuous exercise.
