CM inaugurates Walking Zone & Musical Fountain at Immersion Ghat in Bongaigaon Town

CM lays foundation stone for Footbridge and Entrance Gate at Bongaigaon Eco Park

On a one-day visit to Chirang and Bongaigaon districts, Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma inaugurated the newly constructed walking zone and musical fountain at the immersion ghat in Bongaigaon town. As part of his visit, he laid the foundation stone for construction of a footbridge and entrance gate at the Bongaigaon Eco Park. Dr. Sarma also inspected the construction site of the Bongaigaon Medical College and held a review meeting to assess the progress of the project.

It may be noted that, the walking zone and musical fountain project, aimed at enhancing the aesthetic appeal and development of Bongaigaon, have been realised under the 2022-23 fiscal year’s SOPD (G) at a cost of Rs. 5.91 crore. For construction of the footbridge and entrance gate, which incorporates traditional elements such as bamboo and a pitched roof, symbolising the region’s rich heritage, Rs. 2.91 crore has been allocated. The Eco Park’s entrance would be constructed using natural materials like wood and bamboo, designed to blend seamlessly with the surrounding environment. Addressing the media, Chief Minister Dr. Sarma recalled his earlier announcement during the Eco Park’s inauguration in July 2023, where he announced plans for a footbridge linking the park to the walking zone. Today’s ceremony marks the fulfilment of that commitment.

The event was graced by the presence of Panchayat & Rural Development Minister etc. Ranjit Kumar Dass, Public Health Engineering etc. Minister Jayanta Mallabaruah, MP Phani Bhusan Choudhury, Chairman of Bongaigaon Municipal Board, Subodh Chandra Das, and several senior officials.

Earlier today, the Chief Minister visited the construction site of the Bongaigaon Medical College to evaluate the ongoing work. He also held a review meeting and directed the concerned departments and the construction company to complete the work within the stipulated time, reiterating that all construction activities must maintain the highest standards of quality. Following the review meeting, Dr. Sarma informed the media that the government would try to begin the services of the Bongaigaon Medical College by 2025, and all necessary steps would be taken to start the recruitment process for various positions at the college.

The inspection of the medical college site was attended by Panchayat & Rural Development etc. Minister Ranjit Kumar Dass, Public Health Engineering etc. Minister Jayanta Mallabaruah, MP Phani Bhusan Choudhury, Special Commissioner-Secretary Public Works Building & NH Department, Raj Chakrabarty, and other senior officials.
