An earthquake of 4.2 magnitude jolted parts of Central Assam this morning. However, there has been no report of any casualties or damages to property so far. As per official data, the earthquake was recorded at 7:47 am in Udalguri district on the northern bank of the Brahmaputra river. Another moderate earthquake measuring 4.3 magnitude on the Richter scale struck the Doda district of Jammu and Kashmir early this morning.

The epicentre of the earthquake was Gundoh. The earthquake shook the entire region at around 6.14 am, but the duration was short. For the past few years, Chenab Valley has been witnessing frequent earthquakes, and experts believe that such moderate earthquakes release pressure and the chances of any big earthquake become less.
