The ITF Juniors J60 a World Ranking Junior Tennis Tournament for boys and girls under 18 years started today at the All Assam Tennis Association complex, Chachal, Guwahati. In a glittering opening ceremony, the tournament was formally inaugurated by Shri K. J. Hilaly, IAS, Commissioner and Secretary to the Govt. of Assam, Sports and Youth Welfare Department. Shri Lakhya Konwar, Secretary General, Assam Olympic Association graced the occasion as Guest of Honour.
In a major upset today in the boy’s singles 2nd seed Aaron Gabet of France was ousted by unseeded Aditya Mor of India in a grueling three setter 4-6, 7-5, 7-5. Assam players Raunak Kashyap, Riyan Kashyap in the boy’s singles and Snigdha Patibandala and Sherry Sharma in the girls singles lost their first round matches to their opponents. The doubles matches of the tournament will start from Tuesday.
