In Sri Lanka, rains have wreaked havoc in several provinces due to continued downpours. The Meteorology Department has forecast that rainy conditions will persist for the next 24 hours, affecting the Northern, North-Central, Eastern, Uva, and Central provinces.

Heavy showers, reaching up to 100 mm, are expected in Eastern and Uva provinces as well as in Matale, Nuwara-Eliya and Polonnaruwa districts. Cloudy skies are likely across most parts of the island, with thundershowers anticipated in multiple regions, including the Hambantota district.

Fairly strong winds ranging between 30-40 kmph are also predicted in parts of Northern, Eastern and North-Western provinces.

All government schools in the North Central Province and Eastern Province have been shut. At the same time early landslide warnings at yellow and amber stages have also been sounded in multiple areas on the island.
