MI Cape Town Triumphs in SA20 Thriller

Rashid Khan’s MI Cape Town have seized the SA20 crown, emphatically ending Sunrisers Eastern Cape’s bid for a three-peat. A packed Wanderers crowd witnessed MICT dominate their opponents for the third time this season.

Batting first, MICT, with a lineup heavily featuring local Lions players familiar with the Wanderers pitch, unleashed a barrage of boundaries. Despite regular wickets falling, their aggressive approach paid off, posting a formidable 181 for 8. Explosive cameos from several batsmen, all striking at over 150, fueled the innings. Dewald Brevis, the season’s breakout star, ignited the crowd with a blistering 18-ball 38.

Sunrisers’ chase faltered under the combined attack of MICT’s star bowlers. Trent Boult’s masterful swing bowling in the powerplay, earning him figures of 4-0-9-2, and Kagiso Rabada’s pace proved too much to handle. Rashid Khan and George Linde further squeezed the run rate in the middle overs, before Rabada sealed the deal. Sunrisers were eventually bundled out for a mere 105 in 18.4 overs.

This victory completes a remarkable feat for the MI franchise, adding the SA20 title to their impressive collection, which already includes wins in the IPL, CLT20 (now defunct), WPL, MLC, and ILT20.
