India triumphed over Australia by four wickets to book their spot in the Champions Trophy 2025, setting up a thrilling final against New Zealand in Dubai on March 9.
However, the match took a controversial turn when Glenn Maxwell dropped a sitter off Virat Kohli at 51. The former Indian captain made the most of the reprieve, finishing with a match-winning knock of 84.
Pakistani analyst Naseem Rajput voiced his suspicions on a local channel, claiming that Maxwell seemed to be playing as though he was representing Royal Challengers Bangalore rather than Australia. He remarked, “We often praise Maxwell, but today, it felt like he was playing for RCB, not Australia. The way he got out seemed strange, and then dropping Kohli’s easy catch made it even more suspicious. Carey and Smith seemed to give Maxwell a free pass to help take Australia to 300 runs. The IPL contract might explain some things when international cricket seems less lucrative.”
The remark has added fuel to the fire of speculation surrounding Maxwell’s performance, as India’s dramatic victory continues to dominate discussions.
