In a historic move, Assam is all set to launch its very own satellite, named ‘ASSAMSAT’, marking a significant step forward in the state’s use of space technology for development and governance. This announcement was made by Assam’s Finance Minister, Ajanta Neog, during the unveiling of the 2025-26 state budget in the Assembly on Monday.

The satellite is designed to ensure a continuous and reliable stream of essential data, which will be crucial for the effective implementation of various socio-economic projects. It is expected to bring improvements to several key sectors, including agriculture, disaster management, infrastructure development, border security, and law enforcement.

The project will be carried out in collaboration with the Indian National Space Promotion and Authorization Center (IN-SPACe), an entity under the Ministry of Space. This initiative places Assam at the forefront of space technology, using it to improve governance and enhance the delivery of public services.

Additionally, the Assam government plans to involve college and university students in the satellite’s experimental development, fostering innovation and inspiring future scientists and engineers. This educational initiative will be conducted in partnership with IN-SPACe and the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO).

Once operational, ASSAMSAT will enable Assam to make significant advancements in the space sector, leveraging cutting-edge technology to boost administrative efficiency and strengthen security across the state.
