Rohit Sharma & Virat Kohli End Retirement Speculations, Confirm ODI Commitment

There had been widespread rumors circulating online suggesting that Indian cricket stars Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli might retire after the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 final in Dubai, regardless of the result. However, those speculations were put to rest after India’s impressive four-wicket victory over New Zealand to clinch the title.

Following the match, both players officially confirmed they would not be retiring from One Day Internationals (ODIs). The announcement came shortly after a video showing the duo celebrating with ‘dandiya’ went viral on social media.

It’s important to note that both Kohli and Rohit had already retired from the T20 format after winning the 2024 T20 World Cup in Barbados, earlier last year. This led to some uncertainty about their future in the 50-over format, especially after a dip in form over recent months.

There were reports suggesting that Rohit Sharma was contemplating his ODI future and was set to discuss it with BCCI’s chief selector, Ajit Agarkar, after the final. However, the Indian captain quickly addressed these rumors, saying, “Abhi hum koi retire nehi ho rahe (We are not retiring now…).”

Virat Kohli also put an end to the retirement talk, reassuring fans that he has no plans to retire and will continue playing in the longer format.
