In a major blow to international drug trafficking networks, the Indian Coast Guard (ICG), in coordination with the Gujarat Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS), seized over 300 kg of methamphetamine valued at around ₹1,800 crore during a high-stakes overnight operation conducted between April 12 and 13.
According to the Ministry of Defence, the operation was initiated based on actionable intelligence shared by the Gujarat ATS. An ICG patrol vessel operating off the North Maharashtra–South Gujarat coast was swiftly redirected toward a suspicious boat spotted near the International Maritime Boundary Line (IMBL).
As the Coast Guard approached, the suspect vessel attempted to escape by dumping its illicit cargo into the sea before fleeing into international waters. While the boat successfully evaded capture, the ICG deployed a sea boat and, after an intense night-time search, recovered the discarded methamphetamine consignment.
The seized drugs have been transported to Porbandar for further investigation and processing.
This operation marks the 13th successful joint effort between the ICG and Gujarat ATS in recent years, underscoring the critical role of inter-agency cooperation in tackling transnational crimes and ensuring maritime security.
