Union Home Minister Amit Shah and External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar briefed President Droupadi Murmu on Thursday about the Pahalgam terror strike that killed several civilians, including a foreign national, and outlined the government’s immediate response.
Even as the briefing at Rashtrapati Bhavan took place, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) launched an intense diplomatic drive from its South Block headquarters. Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri met ambassadors and senior diplomats from more than a dozen key partners—among them the United States, United Kingdom, European Union, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Russia, China, Qatar, the UAE, Oman, Indonesia, Malaysia and Norway—to share India’s assessment of the attack and its counter‑terror measures.
EU envoy Herve Delphin, Russian Ambassador Denis Alipov and representatives from Gulf and Southeast Asian nations were among the first to receive the detailed 30‑minute briefings. In a notable signal of regional coordination, Chinese Ambassador Xu Feihong also attended a dedicated session.
Jaishankar’s visit to the MEA war‑room underscored the high priority New Delhi places on securing broad international alignment against cross‑border terrorism in Jammu & Kashmir. Officials said each meeting covered security posture, intelligence findings and ongoing operations, with the goal of reinforcing existing intelligence‑sharing frameworks and isolating terror sponsors.
The concerted outreach follows strong condemnation of the Pahalgam attack from world capitals and is aimed at buttressing India’s zero‑tolerance approach to terrorism.
