Guwahati, July 15 (NKTV): While the statewide lockdown amid the pandemic has brought Assam to a standstill, a group of girls from Kokrajhar-based NGO Nedan Foundation have utilised the time to produce organic pickles with locally-available fruits.
It may be mentioned here that their pickles are getting a good response in the market.
Around 35 girl members of Destination Girls Home, an institution run by the non-profit Nedan Foundation near Chandrapara in Kokrajhar, have been taking the initiative to prepare the pickles and in the process, opening up an opportunity to become self-reliant.
The girls who are involved in pickle making are rescued survivors from different situations, who are presently pursuing higher education.
Presently, five types of pickle products are available in the market including mango, chilly, starfruit, lemon and roselle leaves.
“We have produced over 500 kg pickle so far. Members of the NGO are selling these pickles and we are getting good response from the market” the in-charge of Destination Girls Home said. She added that the pickles will also be available online.
