Abhinav silver-Isangfa won bronze in the IWLF tournament in Himachal Pradesh

Guwahati, October 9: There is good news for the sports scene of Assam on the occasion of Mahashashti of Durga Puja. Assam’s talented international weightlifter Siddhant Gogoi won gold medals in the IWLF Junior, Youth and Senior National Weightlifting Championships being held in Himachal Pradesh. Abhinav Gogoi of Assam won silver and Isangpha Gogoi won two bronze medals in the women’s category.

In the senior men’s 67kg category, Siddhant of Assam lifted 286 kg including 122 kg in snatch and 164 kg in clean and jerk. Siddhant, who competed for India in the junior category at the Asian and Commonwealth Weightlifting Championships last year and won gold medals in both international competitions, also made his senior debut with a gold medal.

Siddhant won two gold and one silver medals at the 2023 Asian Junior and Youth Weightlifting Championships. In the 61kg junior category, Siddhant won silver in the snatch with a lift of 116 kg and gold in the clean and jerk with a weight of 149 kg. Siddhant won the third medal with his second gold after lifting a total of 265 kg. Siddhant had won gold in the previous Commonwealth Championships.

Siddhant, who also played in the 61kg junior category at the 2023 Commonwealth Championships, lifted 112kg in the snatch and 148kg in the clean and jerk. Siddhant, who won bronze medals in the Asian Weightlifting and Commonwealth Championships early in his career, has moved firmly to the senior level after winning two international gold medals last year. Siddhant has also improved his performance in snatch and clean and jerk at the senior level.

In the youth boys’ 67kg category, Abhinav lifted 117 kg in snatch and 137 kg in clean and jerk. Assam’s Isangpha Gogoi won two bronze medals in the junior and youth categories in the 55kg category. She lifted a total of 167 kg including 75 kg in the snatch and 92 kg in the clean and jerk. The three medal winners were congratulated by the Assam Weightlifting Association Secretary Bhabjyoti Goswami and hoped that Assam would win more medals in the tournament. The competition will end on October 13.
