Army helicopter carrying CDS Bipin Rawat, his family crashes

In a sad incident, an Army helicopter who was carrying Chief of Defence Staff General Bipin Rawat, his family and staff have crashed in Tamil Nadu. The Indian Air Force in Twitter wrote “An IAF Mi-17V5 helicopter, with CDS Gen Bipin Rawat on board, met with an accident today near Coonoor, Tamil Nadu. An Inquiry has been ordered to ascertain the cause of the accident.”

According to reports, five people on board have died. Two are in hospital with 90 percent burn injuries. A search is on for the other seven. The injured are being treated at the military hospital at the Wellington base. The identities of those killed are being withheld at this point. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has briefed Prime Minister Narendra Modi and will brief Parliament at 3.30 pm.
