On 24th Jan 2022 in a true display of patriotism just before the 73rd Republic Day and in an exceptional display of thanksgiving to the Assam Rifles by the locals in South Arunachal Pradesh Tirap District, the villagers of Lahu village of the Dadam Circle organized a felicitation ceremony to thank the brave soldiers of the 6th Assam Rifles who on 15 Nov 2021 in a daring operation had rescued the chief of Lahu village alongwith an Ex ASM who were kidnapped on 14 Nov from their village and were being taken across the India Myanmar Border for ransom.
The village chief of Lahu Mr. Ranwang Lowang and Ex- ASM Mr. Sunwang Hakhun, who were the abductees, expressed their heartfelt gratitude towards the 6th Assam Rifles for executing this daring rescue operation wherein both civilians abducted by insurgents of NSCN-K(YA) were rescued unharmed while being taken to Myanmar and three insurgents were eliminated in the operation making it the most successful rescue operation in the history of insurgency in Arunachal Pradesh.
The villagers of Lahu village organized a felicitation ceremony to thank the brave soldiers of 6 Assam Rifles which conducted this successful operation in a traditional way. Approximately 150 villagers gathered to convey their appreciation and pledged to stand firm against insurgency and condemn the actions of NSCN-K(YA).
While interacting with the villagers Col Amit Kumar Das, Commandant of 6 Assam Rifles complimented the villagers for not paying any extortion money to any of the insurgent group which is a welcome change and this trend should continue in future for ensuring lasting peace in the area. In the recent times there is a growing disgruntlement amongst the local population towards the insurgent groups specially in the Tirap District wherein off late a number of villagers have protested openly against extortion, abduction and illegal activities of NSCN IM and NSCN-K(YA). Both these insurgents groups have faced severe setbacks in last two years in Tirap district with a number of elimination, apprehensions & surrenders of its cadres.
