The Asmita Rugby League is set to continue it’s exciting journey with the next tournament scheduled from 9th and 10th, November 2024, at the Goreswar Higher Secondary School in Tamulpur, Assam.
This tournament promises to be a thrilling showcase of women’s rugby, with around 288 athletes from 24 teams participating across three categories: Under 15, Under 18, and Senior. The event will offer a total prize money of Rs. 3 Lakh and a conduct cost of Rs. 2.6 Lakh.
Khelo India Asmita Leagues are organised across 18 sports disciplines all over the country at inter-district, zonal, and national levels. Under the Promotion of Sports among Women component of the flagship Khelo India scheme, these leagues are organised specifically to provide additional avenues for increased participation of women in sports and competition exposure.
The Asmita Rugby League continues to foster the growth of women’s rugby in India. This tournament in Assam is yet another step towards empowering young women through sports and providing them with a platform to showcase their talent. The winners will receive prize money total worth Rs.3 lakhs through DBT mode from Sports Authority of India, whereas the National Sports Federation has received grant of Rs.2.6 lakh per event.
The competition will begin on 9th November in the presence of Deputy Commissioner of Tamulpur district Sh. Pankaj Chakraborty.
