Guwahati, August 10 (NKTV): The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast fairly widespread to widespread rainfall activity, with isolated heavy to very heavy falls, over the northeastern states for the next five days.

As per weather reports, the intensity of rainfall is likely to become stronger due to the prevalence of strong southerly and southwesterly winds that will start blowing in from the Bay of Bengal from Wednesday.

The heaviest falls are expected to lash Meghalaya, Assam and Arunachal Pradesh, with a 5-day rainfall accumulation of over 200 mm expected in some places.

Assam and Meghalaya will receive a majority of the precipitation between Wednesday and Friday.

Owing to these rough weather conditions, the IMD has issued an orange alert over Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura for Wednesday. The alert instructs residents to ‘be prepared’ for the inclement weather conditions.

By Saturday, the rough weather conditions are likely to subside.
