Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma has officially become the Life Member of the Guwahati Sports Association today. A GSA delegation, led by President Paresh Ch. Das and General Secretary Devajit Saikia called on the Chief Minister at his office today and officially handed over the Life Membership Plaque to Dr Sarma.
The Chief Minister expressed happiness to receive the honour from the GSA and said that this is a great honour to have received from the prestigious sports organization, where he served as the President once.It is to be noted that GSA General Body meeting held on 6th May, unanimously decided to confer prestigious Life Membership to the Chief Minister. The last extraordinary General Body meeting on 18th June, also decided to confer Chief Advisor cum Patron post to the Chief Minister, which was conveyed to him in the meeting.
Dr Sarma accepted the decision and agreed to work together for the betterment of the sports and bring the past glory to the organization.The GSA delegation also discussed with the Chief Minister its plans and programs, specifically the proposed revamp of the Football League structure. The General Secretary Saikia conveyed to him about the proposal of the All India Football Federation in regard to the rejuvenation plan of prestigious Bordoloi Trophy. The Chief Minister agreed to look into the proposal and assured his cooperation in all the sports development plans of the GSA. The delegation of the GSA also included Vice President Bhola Boro, Treasurer Amiya Kumar Kalita and Joint Secretary Kajal Paul Choudhury.
