CM Dr. Sarma writes to West Bengal CM to hand over case to CBI in connection with mysterious death of a IIT student from Assam
Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma requested his West Bengal counterpart Mamata Banerjee to involve CBI to unearth the truth shrouding the mysterious death of Faizan Ahmed, a student of IIT Kharagpur, who hailed from Assam’s Tinsukia.
In a letter sent to West Bengal Chief Minister on June 17, 2024, Dr. Sarma requested her to hand over the case to the CBI for a transparent and fair investigation of the crime.
It may be noted that Faizan Ahmed was found dead in his hostel on 14th October, 2022. Though his death was claimed to be a case of suicide by the IIT authority, his bereaved parents observed injury marks on Faizan’s body. Moreover, in view of the direction of the Hon’ble Calcutta High Court, a second autopsy was carried out by exhuming late Faizan’s body. During the autopsy, a gunshot wound on the upper left side of the neck and a stab wound on the right side of Faizan’s neck was observed.
In view of the findings, Dr. Sarma requested his West Bengal counterpart to involve the Central agency (CBI) to find out the truth, bring the perpetrators of the crime to book and give the grief-stricken parents of the deceased justice. It may be noted that earlier on 10 October, 2022, Dr. Sarma also wrote a letter to the CM West Bengal, requesting for a thorough inquiry into the death of Faizan.
