Guwahati, September 19 (NKTV): Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma today unveiled a statue of Raja Sri Sri Sri Gobinda Chandra Narayana Hasnu, the last king of the Dimasa-Kachari Kingdom at Silchar Circuit House premises. The statue has been installed under the aegis of Barman Dimasa Kachari Development Council.
Appreciating the Barman Dimasa Kachari Development Council for the initiative to install the statue, the CM said that Raja Sri Sri Sri Gobinda Chandra Narayana Hasnu played a pivotal role in the preservation of the Dimasa-Kachari culture, language and literature.
Stating that the state government has also been working dedicatedly to preserve the language, culture, religious faiths, traditions and customs of all indigenous communities of the state, the Chief Minister assured to take special measures for the preservation of heritage and for speedy development of the Barman Dimasa Kacharis.
Minister for Cultural Affairs Bimal Bora, MPs Dr. Rajdeep Roy and Pallab Lochan Das, MLAs Dipayan Chakrabarty and Kaushik Roy, Chairman of Barman Dimasa Kachari Development Council Rupesh Khersa Barman were also present on the occasion.
The CM also visited Khaspur at Udharbond in Cachar district which was the last capital of the Dimasa-Kachari kingdom. Sarma paid a visit to the monuments of the kingdom at Khaspur that bear testimony to the unique architecture of the Dimasa-Kacharis.
Sarma said that the state government would take a project covering 100 bigha land to preserve the heritage of the Dimasa-Kachari kingdom at Khaspur and to turn the place into an attractive tourist destination.
