Assam has enough Covid-19 vaccines: Himanta Biswa Sarma

The health minister of Assam, Himanta Biswa Sarma, who is leading the fight against dreaded second wave of coronavirus in the state, visited GMCH today, 7th May and took a stock of Covid-19 facilities there. Speaking to media, Himanta Biswa Sarma said that currently there are 1.5 lakh Covid-19 vaccines available in Assam and the vaccines have been allotted to around 244 vaccination centers across the state. The central government will provide 1 lakh vaccines on 8th May also, he further added.

Speaking on ICU bed scarcity, Himanta said that from tomorrow, 8th May, construction of a 200-ICU bed hospital in GMCH parking lot will start and the work will be done at a rapid pace so that the need can be meet.

According to him, the Kalapahar Covid-19 facility is also to get 24 more ICU beds. The government of Assam will also release new SOPs regarding air passengers. Himanta Biswa Sarma hoped that the containment zones will reduce the Covid-19 spread and help curb the rise of Covid cases.
