Assam Mizoram Border Row | Both states to take forward initiatives taken by Union Home Ministry

Guwahati, August 05 (NKTV): After a meeting today between the Governments of Assam and Mizoram, represented by Minister of Border Protection and Development (Assam) Atul Bora and Home Minister of Mizoram Lalchamliana along with senior officials of both states, it has been decided that the governments of both states shall take forward the initiatives taken by the Ministry of Home Affairs of the Government of India to put an end to the prevailing tensions along the Assam-Mizoram border region.

Representatives of the Government of Mizoram have conveyed their condolences for the loss of lives and wished speedy recovery of those injured in the clash.

Governments of both the states have agreed to maintain peace in the inter-state border areas and welcomed the deployment of neutral forces by the Government of India in this regard. For this purpose, both states shall not send their respective Forest and Police forces for patrolling, domination, enforcement or for fresh deployment to any of the areas where confrontation and conflict has taken place between the Police forces of Assam and Mizoram recently.

Representatives of both states have agreed to take all necessary measures to promote, preserve and maintain peace and harmony amongst the people living in Assam and Mizoram, particularly in the border areas.
