BCCI Secretary Slams Congress Worker for ‘Fat’ Comment on Rohit Sharma’s Fitness

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary, Devajit Saikia, has criticized Congress worker Shama Mohamed for her controversial social media post calling Indian cricket captain Rohit Sharma “fat.” Mohamed’s remark quickly sparked widespread backlash, leading her to delete the post.

Saikia expressed his disappointment, stating that it was highly inappropriate for someone in a responsible position to make such a comment, especially when Team India is competing in an ICC tournament and preparing for a crucial semi-final match.

In her defense, Mohamed explained that her tweet was intended as a general comment about the fitness of athletes, not as body-shaming. She stated that she believed Rohit Sharma appeared a bit overweight and felt it was her right to voice such an opinion. Mohamed also mentioned that she had compared Sharma’s fitness to that of previous captains, adding that her comment was made in the spirit of democracy and shouldn’t have been blown out of proportion.
