Guwahati, June 12 (NKTV): The All Bodo Students Union (ABSU) today observed the 34th Bodoland Martyrs’ Day at Martyr Tomb at Bhatipara in Kokrajhar on the death anniversary of Sujit Narzary, the first martyr of Bodoland movement.
The Bodoland movement under the leadership of Bodofa Upendra Nath Brahma, former president of ABSU was started in 1987 seeking separate Bodoland statehood that later led to the creation three Bodo peace accords till date.
It may be mentioned here that Sujit Narzary became first martyr on June 12, 1987 during the Bodoland movement and ABSU has been observing the day as Bodoland martyrs day every year.
Minister UGwra Brahma, Kokrajhar East LAC MLA Lawrence Islary and Sidli MLA Jayanta Basumatary paid homage to the Bodoland martyrs.
Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) Administration observed the Bodoland Martyrs’ Day at Bodoland Martyrs’ cemetery ground at Debargaon.
Marking the Bodoland Martyrs’ Day, ABSU president Dipen Boro hoisted the ABSU flag half on the occasion followed by rich floral tribute to the martyrs at the martyr tomb in Bhatipara.
Dipen Boro said that he is hopeful that the BTR Accord is facilitating good governance and healthy welfare and development for the people in the Bodoland region.
Minister UG Brahma recalled the contributions and sacrifices of the martyrs who laid their valuable lives during the Bodoland Statehood Movement.
