CM Announces 24×7 Shop Operations in Municipal Corporation Areas with Work Hour Regulations

Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, after chairing a Cabinet Meeting at the CM’s Secretariat in Dibrugarh, announced that shops in municipal corporation areas of Dibrugarh, Guwahati, and Silchar will now be permitted to operate 24×7, seven days a week, at the discretion of business owners. There will be no mandatory weekly closure. In other parts of the state, business establishments will be allowed to remain open until 2 AM.

The Chief Minister emphasized that while shops can operate round the clock, no employee shall work beyond 48 hours per week in a single shift, ensuring compliance with labor laws. Business owners are allowed to employ staff in multiple shifts to facilitate extended operations.

Addressing the operation of liquor shops, Dr. Sarma clarified that while other establishments may function 24×7, liquor shops in Dibrugarh and Silchar will be permitted to remain open only until midnight.

Additionally, the Chief Minister confirmed that the government the work on MLA and Speaker’s hostel, along with the Secretariat building in Dibrugarh, is progressing as scheduled and is expected to be completed within a year.
