CM Sarma convenes Video Conference with District Commissioners regarding celebration of Bhasha Gaurav Week

Heralding a significant initiative to honour linguistic heritage, the State government of Assam has decided to celebrate Bhasha Gaurav Week from November 3 to November 9. Today, with the aim of discussing the intricacies surrounding this celebration, Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma convened a video conference with District Commissioners from the DC Office in Amingaon.

During the conference, Dr. Sarma said that the forthcoming Bhasha Gaurav Week would serve as an occasion for the State government to extend its heartfelt gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for granting Classical Language status to the Assamese language. This recognition would also honour individuals whose contributions to the Assamese language span from the third and fourth centuries to the present day, he added. The CM noted that this week would feature an array of competitions, including speech contests, debate competitions, discussion forums, recitations, and essay writing contests. These activities would be hosted at colleges, universities, social organizations, associations, Bihu committees, Sahitya Sabhas, and various private educational institutions. Dr. Sarma emphasized that these events would promote and celebrate the multitude of languages represented in Assam, and directed District Commissioners to ensure that all essential arrangements are thoroughly organized. He highlighted the presence of 13 associated State languages alongside Assamese, affirming that Bhasha Gaurav Week aims to celebrate the linguistic diversity of every ethnic community within Assam. The week is designed to encompass a range of educational and social events that foster appreciation for all these languages through spirited discussions and competitions.

Education Minister Dr. Ranoj Pegu was present in this virtual conference alongside Chief Secretary Dr. Ravi Kota, Additional Chief Secretary of the Cultural Affairs Department Dr. B. Kalyan Chakravarthy, Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister’s Dr. K.K. Dwivedi, Secretary of the Department of Higher Education Narayan Konwar, all District Commissioners except those from the five districts where by-elections are scheduled.
