In an attempt to boost mutual ties with South Korea, Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma today met Minister SME and Start ups of the Republic of Korea Oh Youngju in Seoul, as the duo talked on multiple issues related to facilitating enhanced collaboration between entrepreneurs and start ups units of Assam and those of South Korea.

            Chief Minister Dr. Sarma who is on a three-day visit to South Korea to woo industrialists, investors and entrepreneurs for Advantage Assam 2.0 Investment and Infrastructure Summit, today met the Korean Minister and held discussion to expand the parameter of collaboration between the entrepreneurs and start ups of both Assam and South Korea. The meeting also discussed on how the start up movement unleashed in India under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi can reap rich dividends for the mutual benefits of both Assam and South Korea. Dr. Sarma also visited the Start up Campus at Pangyo Techno Valley in Seoul known as South Korea’s Silicon Valley to see and comprehend the Start up ecosystem of South Korea. Techno Valley is an innovative Korean concept that houses start ups and entrepreneurs from different technological backgrounds namely IT, biotech and cultural under one roof. He also interacted with several startup stakeholders during his visit to Techno Valley. Earlier today, Chief Minister Dr. Sarma held a meeting with Vice President, SK Hynix, Dr. Joon Choi and talked on the issues of semiconductor sector. Dr. Sarma shared his vision of establishing Assam as a global semiconductor hub and emphasized that an enabling semiconductor ecosystem is one of the major priorities of State government in Assam. The Chief Minister also shared with him the Rs. 27000 crore state-of-the-art green field semiconductor unit in Assam’s Jagiroad which is expected to generate large scale jobs of direct and indirect in the state.

            Chief Minister Dr. Sarma also met the CEO of Seoul Viosys Lee Young Joo. It may be mentioned that the firm is associated with the works of semiconductors and LED technology. Dr. Sarma invited him to participate in Advantage Assam 2.0 Summit and consider joining Assam’s growing semiconductor ecosystem. He also exuded his government’s willingness to extend highest level of support to all semiconductor players who show their keen interests in coming to Assam and working in semiconductor industry.

            Reiterating his government’s commitment to clean energy and for partnering with South Korea for a cleaner and greener tomorrow, Chief Minister Dr. Sarma also held a detailed discussion with the Vice President GS Group, one of South Korea’s leading firms in renewable and clean energy. The Chief Minister discussed on modalities as to how Assam can scale its road ahead in generating 3000 MW clean energy by 2030. Dr. Sarma also expressed his eagerness to partner with Korean enterprises to help Assam meet this ambitious target and train a skilled workforce to serve the growing renewable energy industry.

Dr Sarma’s engagements over the last two days have been reportedly very productive and has generated keen interest and enthusiasm among Korean business leaders for Advantage Assam 2.0 Summit and the possibilities that lie in Assam. Dr Sarma will be headed to Tokyo, Japan in the evening on the second leg of his global outreach visit to engage in discussions with Japanese industry leaders ahead of the mega Summit.
