Cotton University Holds Third Convocation, Confers Degrees to 3001 Students

Cotton University hosted its third convocation ceremony today at the Srimanta Sankardeva International Auditorium in Kalakshetra, Guwahati. A total of 3001 students were awarded degrees, including 86 PhDs, 1658 Postgraduates, 1240 Undergraduates, and 17 Diplomas. Among the recipients, 128 students were honored with gold medals for their outstanding academic achievements.

Eminent journalist and writer Kanaksen Deka was conferred with the honorary D.Litt. degree in recognition of his significant contributions to Assamese literature, journalism, and culture. Additionally, two students from the university’s BA Programme for Sportspersons, Riyan Parag and Anyatam Rajkonwar, also received their degrees. This program is aimed at nurturing young athletes in the region.

The ceremony was attended by several distinguished dignitaries, including Assam Governor and Chancellor of Cotton University, Lakshman Prasad Acharya, Vice Chancellor of Maharashtra State Skills University, Prof Apoorva Palkar, and former Director of IIT and IIIT Guwahati, Prof Gautam Barua.

In his address, Assam Governor Acharya urged the graduates to dedicate themselves to hard work during the transformative Amrit Kaal, contributing to a self-reliant and stronger India. He also congratulated Cotton University for achieving an ‘A’ grade from the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC).

Prof Apoorva Palkar, delivering the convocation address, encouraged the students to dream big, work hard, and embrace lifelong learning. She emphasized the importance of mastering international languages to enhance their career opportunities.

Vice Chancellor of Cotton University, Prof Ramesh Chandra Deka, presented a report highlighting the university’s achievements, including the adoption of a four-year undergraduate program, the introduction of multiple entry and exit policies, and successful industry-academia collaborations. He also lauded the university’s faculty for their contribution to global research, with over 200 publications in prestigious journals.

Prof Gautam Barua encouraged graduates to explore entrepreneurial opportunities and emphasized the importance of innovation and self-reliance in their careers.

The ceremony began with an academic procession, featuring the dignitaries, registrar, deans, and other members of the university’s academic council, led by Registrar Dr. Arindam Garg.
