Devajit Saikia, the newly elected secretary of the BCCI, returned to Guwahati on January 13 to a rousing welcome. This marks a historic moment as Saikia becomes the first individual from Assam and Northeast India to hold such a prestigious position in Indian cricket administration.

Upon his arrival, Saikia expressed gratitude towards the people of Assam for their unwavering support. “I thank all the people and well-wishers in Assam for their support and love. This success is not mine alone but belongs to all the sports-loving people of Assam,” he said.
Acknowledging the collective effort behind his achievement, Saikia added, “I was not alone in this journey. The sports organisers of Assam, including Gauhati Town Club, Guwahati Sports Association, and Assam Cricket Association, have all been supportive. All the sports associations and organisers across the districts of Assam have contributed to this success.”

He further urged sports organisers in the state to continue working in their respective fields with ambition and dedication.
Representatives from Guwahati Sports Association (GSA), Assam Cricket Association, Gauhati Town Club, and several other organisations gathered at the airport to extend a warm reception to Saikia. Following his arrival, Saikia visited the GSA office, where he was honoured with a guard of honour by young cricketers, celebrating his significant achievement.
