During a press conference at the White House on Friday, former President Donald Trump emphasized the possibility of resuming relations with North Korea, highlighting his positive personal relationship with Kim Jong Un, the country’s leader.

Standing alongside Japan’s Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba, Trump expressed confidence in the value of his rapport with Kim, which he described as an asset for global diplomacy. “We will have relations with North Korea, with Kim Jong Un. I got along with them very well,” Trump said.

Trump’s two-term presidency included high-profile summits with Kim in Vietnam and Singapore, aimed at addressing North Korea’s nuclear ambitions. While those talks ultimately fell short of achieving denuclearization, Trump insisted that their connection remained strong, citing “love letters” from Kim as a testament to their bond.

“I think it’s a very big asset for everybody that I do get along with him,” Trump added. “I get along with him, he gets along with me. And that’s a good thing, not a bad thing.”
