Guwahati, September 20 (NKTV): The Food Corporation of India (FCI) has set a target of procuring 10 lakh metric tonne paddy from the farmers in Assam in the coming years, informed Union Minister Ashwini Kumar Choubey on Sunday.
Choubey said that 47,000 metric tonnes of paddy were bought by the FCI from Assam between 2010 to 2014. Claiming that paddy procurement from Assam has increased after the NDA came to power in 2014, the minister said that 2 lakh metric tonnes will be bought from farmers of the state during the current year.
“This figure will be increased to 10 lakh metric tonne in the coming years with the help of the state government and its relevant departments” said Choubey.
The Minister said the Centre was committed to developing Assam as a model state in the country.
