Football’s one of the greatest son Cristiano Ronaldo was benched for 65 minutes in the round of 16 match against Switzerland. And that has lead to severe controversy in the Portugal camp. Even though the Portuguese team dominated the Swiss team in their round of 16 match by defeating them 6-1 with G. Ramos’s hattrick, CR7’s family members found themselves unhappy as the legend was benched during the match.
This was the first time since 2008 the 37-year-old is not starting a match for Portugal at a major tournament. Ronaldo’s girlfriend shared a post on Instagram sharing her feelings “What a shame not to have been able to enjoy the best player in the world for 90 minutes.’ she wrote.
His sister also expressed displeasure for benching the star footballer and asked him to comeback home from the World Cup and leave the national team. However, Portugal Football Federation denied the rumours of CR7 threatening the team to quit the world cup campaign. The rumours came up after he was benched for the match against Switzerland.
