Guwahati, July 24 (NKTV):In a historical moment weightlifter from Manipur Mirabai Chanu won the first medal for India at Tokyo Olympics 2020 as she won the silver medal in the women’s 49kg category as Zhihu Hou of China took gold.
Mirabai Chanu lifted 84kg and 87kg successfully but failed to lift 89kg as she was placed in second spot after snatch while China’s Zhihu lifted 94kg to create an Olympic record.
Chanu has also won the World Championships and multiple medals at the Commonwealth Games. She was awarded the Padma Shri by the Government of India for her contributions to the sport. She was awarded Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna awards by the Government of India for year 2018.
