Himanta Biswa Sarma, on 6th May, assured that all workers working in the cremation grounds of Guwahati will be inoculated.
The minister, while visiting the Ulubari cremation ground to take stock of the situation, said that since the ‘Chandals’ and the co-workers are Covid Warriors, fighting the pandemic at the forefront they will be administered the COVID-19 vaccines from today. This is applicable for the workers of the Bhootnath and Ulubari cremation grounds and the Athgaon Kabrastan that have been designated to cremate the COVID-19 deads.
Assam has been recording deaths due to COVID-19, most of these in Kamrup Metro. The allotted funeral grounds have been working round the clock to keep up with the large number of cremations without the workers being vaccinated.
