Guwahati, July 5 (NKTV): In a report published by India’s top meteorologists around 17,000 people have lost their lives due to severe heatwaves between 1971 to 2019 in the country. According to the report, the maximum deaths due to heatwave occurred in states like Telangana, Odisha and Andhra Pradesh.
The report was authored by M Rajeevan, a secretary in the Union ministry of earth sciences, along with scientists like Kamaljit Ray, RK Giri, AP Dimri and SS Ray.
Meteorologists declares heatwave when the actual maximum temperature is greater than the normal maximum temperature, which is higher than 40 degrees Celsius.
