The Assam State film Awards was instituted to recognize and honour excellence in filmmaking in the state. In addition to the enormous amount of creative talent displayed by the makers, any film is the result of creativity and technical expertise joining hands to create a masterpiece of art that can captivate audiences and convey emotions and messages through a combination of visual and auditory elements. From the screenplay and the direction to the cinematography, editing, sound design, visual effects, music, and many other components, a film requires a complex and collaborative effort that involves skilled professionals from different fields, each contributing their unique expertise and creativity to bring the story and characters to life on the screen. A successful film not only entertains and moves its viewers, but also reflects the cultural, social, and historical context in which it is created, making it a valuable medium of artistic expression and communication.
The awards were presented in 40 categories for the years 2018 and 2019 in various categories including feature films, short films and documentaries The individuals who were felicitated on Monday were selected after stringent scrutiny by a list of eminent experts.
Such events and award functions certainly go a long way in inspiring the future generations of talent to come forward and contribute to the cultural diaspora of Assam and carry forward our legacy and promulgate our immensely rich, ancient and diverse cultural and traditional identity.

Assamese cinema has certainly come a long way ever since the 1st Assamese film “Joymoti” was released on the 10th of March 1935 producing several cultural icons who remain immortal through their immense contributions to the realm of Assamese theatre, films, music, and culture.
