The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) of the India Meteorological Department (IMD), based in Guwahati, has forecasted rainfall across Assam and nearby northeastern states over the next two days, April 14 and 15. Guwahati recorded 27.5 mm of rainfall last night, accompanied by heavy showers and thunderstorms in areas like Majuli.

For April 14, the IMD predicts moderate rain in many parts of Assam and Meghalaya. Light to moderate rain is also expected in some parts of Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, and Tripura. Despite the rainy weather, no significant change in maximum temperatures is expected across the region.

The weather department has issued alerts for thunderstorms and lightning with gusty winds. Winds are expected to reach 40-50 km/h in isolated areas of Assam and Tripura, while gusts up to 30-40 km/h are likely in Manipur and Mizoram. Thunderstorms and lightning may also affect parts of Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, and Nagaland. Additionally, heavy rainfall is likely at isolated locations in Assam.

According to the IMD, the unsettled weather is primarily due to an upper air cyclonic circulation now situated over south Assam at about 1.5 km above sea level. A previously active system over northeast Assam has weakened, and a related trough extending from central Assam to the West Central Bay of Bengal has also become less prominent.
