Guwahati, July 7 (NKTV): Mahendra Singh Dhoni, one of the greatest captain of Indian cricket team turns 40 today. MS Dhoni who was born in Ranchi, Bihar (now in Jharkhand) had interest in sports from his childhood itself.
Although Dhoni rarely played cricket in his initial days as he was much attached to football and played as a goal keeper for his school football team.
It was his school cricket coach who noticed his goal keeping skills and asked him to play as a wicket keeper in their school team.
After that MS never looked back and now he is one of biggest superstar in Indian cricket.
After a successful performance in the domestic circuit Dhoni debut for Team India on 23th December 2004 against Bangladesh but unfortunately got run out for 0 in his first match.
MS Dhoni didn’t have a great start in his career as he underperformed in his initial matches. With constant bad innings Dhoni was on verge of being dropped from the Indian squad but a decision taken by then captain Saurav Ganguly changed MS Dhoni’s career forever. On 5th April, 2005 MS Dhoni was promoted up in the batting order to bat at no. 3 where he scored a splendid 148 runs from 123 balls against Pakistan
The innings helped MS Dhoni to established himself in the Indian cricket team. The main turning point of MSD’s career came when he was appointed as the captain of the Indian T20 team for the inaugural T-20 world cup after senior players like Rahul Dravid, Sachin Tendulkar backed out. Surprisingly, MS Dhoni with his young guns won the world cup and thereafter fans saw rise of MS Dhoni as a captain in the international cricket.
Era of MS Dhoni as ‘captain cool’ then began. Dhoni then went on to win 3 IPL trophies in his whole career.
The premier achievement as captain for MS Dhoni came when he won ICC World Cup for the Indian cricket team after 28 years. “Dhoni finishes off in style. A magnificent strike into the crowd! India lift the World Cup after 28 years!” the mesmerizing last ball commentary by Ravi Shastri will always be cherished by the Indian fans.
After the world cup, Dhoni also won the ICC Champions Trophy 2013 with a young side in England.
For his immense success in the cricket field MS Dhoni was also awarded with Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna, Padma Shri and Padma Bhushan.
MS Dhoni also served in the Indian Army for more than one month in Jammu & Kashmir soon after playing the ICC World Cup 2019.
MS Dhoni is admired by millions of people across India and he will always be remembered as the greatest captain of India.
