The Indian cricket team is set to play a closed-door warm-up match against India A at Beckenham, a ground under Kent County Cricket Club’s jurisdiction, during their upcoming tour of England. This match, which will serve as the team’s final preparation before the five-Test series, will be held at this suburban venue near London.
While there were initial discussions about broadcasting this intra-squad fixture — effectively an India vs. India A game — the proposal was ultimately rejected. The Indian team has opted to keep the match behind closed doors, away from cameras, prioritizing privacy for their preparations.
This warm-up game, scheduled around June 13, is the only practice match planned before the opening Test at Headingley in Leeds on June 20. As of now, no fixtures against local county teams have been arranged. Beckenham, located in the southeastern part of London, is known for its good-quality facilities, providing the ideal setting for the Indian team’s preparations.
The Indian team is expected to arrive in England during the second week of June, with some players possibly arriving earlier after finishing their IPL commitments, though this is still uncertain.
Meanwhile, the India A team will travel to England earlier and face England Lions in two four-day games. The first of these matches will take place at Canterbury from May 30 to June 2, while the second will be held at Northamptonshire from June 6 to 9.
As for the Indian team, selection will take place in May, and the leadership debate around Rohit Sharma will intensify. How his IPL performance pans out could significantly impact his chances of leading the side.
After the first Test in Leeds from June 20, the Indian team will head to Birmingham for the second Test at Edgbaston, followed by matches at Lord’s, Old Trafford, and The Oval throughout July and August.
