Itkhola Athletic Club lifted the coveted title of the 7th Assam Premier Club Championship with a nail-biting 1-wicket victory over Triranga CCC in the final, held in Guwahati on Sunday.
Opting to field first after winning the toss, Itkhola AC bowled out Triranga CCC for a modest total of 97 runs in 29.1 overs. Kabir Hassan Deshmukh stood out for Triranga CCC with a gritty 41 off 55 deliveries. However, Itkhola’s Hritwik Dhar proved instrumental with the ball, claiming 3 wickets for just 15 runs.
In reply, Itkhola AC chased down the target with great determination, reaching 101 for 9 in 31.2 overs. Sourav Saha played a crucial knock of 16 runs off 52 balls, anchoring the innings amidst falling wickets. The highlight of Triranga CCC’s bowling attack was Dipankar Paul, who turned in a phenomenal performance with figures of 6 for 19, nearly swinging the game in his team’s favour.
Hritwik Dhar was deservedly named ‘Player of the Match’ for his all-round contribution. His consistent performances throughout the tournament also earned him the prestigious ‘Player of the Tournament’ accolade. Dhar further cemented his dominance with the ball by bagging the ‘Best Bowler’ award.
Meanwhile, Triranga CCC’s Kabir Hassan Deshmukh was recognised for his batting prowess and was named ‘Best Batter’ of the tournament.
The championship witnessed spirited performances and sportsmanship, with Itkhola AC etching their name in the record books as the champions of the 7th edition of the Assam Premier Club Championship.
BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia presented the champions trophy and congratulated the winning team by extending his best wishes to both finalists for their outstanding display of cricketing excellence. He commended the players for their dedication and passion, which contributed to the resounding success of the tournament.
ACA Secretary Tridib Konwar also congratulated Itkhola Athletic Club on their remarkable triumph and appreciated the efforts of all participating teams. He expressed his delight at the high standard of cricket witnessed during the championship and reaffirmed ACA’s commitment to promoting grassroots cricket in the state.
