Meghalaya’s tourism sector is set for a boost with the launch of the state’s autumn tourism calendar, which features a series of prominent events. The announcement was made at a conclave with local tourism stakeholders on August 14, led by Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma and Tourism Minister Paul Lyngdoh.
One of the major highlights of the calendar is the official partnership with Japan for the Shillong Cherry Blossom Festival, scheduled for November 15-16. This collaboration came about following a suggestion by the Japanese Ambassador during his visit to Meghalaya last year. The Ambassador was struck by the similarity between Meghalaya’s cherry blossoms and those in Japan, leading to the idea of a joint initiative.
As part of this partnership, the festival will feature a “Japan Zone,” which will offer visitors a glimpse into the rich and diverse culture of Japan. Tourism Minister Lyngdoh expressed excitement about the collaboration, believing it will significantly enhance the festival’s appeal and attract more visitors.
Other notable events in the autumn tourism calendar include:
- Shillong Literary Festival: November 12-14
- Me’gong Festival: November 29-30
- The Hills Festival: December 6-7
- Bryan Adams India Tour: December 10
- Winter Tales: December 12-14
This packed lineup of cultural, literary, and musical events is expected to draw a wide range of tourists and provide a significant boost to Meghalaya’s tourism industry.
