Lays foundation for Critical Care block at Darrang Civil Hospital
Visits AIIMS Guwahati; CM requests Union Minister to increase strength of IPD
Union Health and Family Welfare, Chemicals and Fertilizer Minister JP Nadda along with Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma today visited Darrang District which has been selected under Centre’s Aspirational District Programme and took stock of the health facilities and skill and other infrastructural projects in the district.
During his visit to Mangaldoi, the Union Minister laid the foundation of a 50 bed critical care block in Darrang Civil Hospital in presence of the Chief Minister. The critical care block will be built under Prime Minister’s Ayushman Bharat Health Infrastructure Programme. The critical care centre will have ICU and paediatric ICU among other high-end facilities. During the visit the District Commissioner apprised the Union Minister as well as the Chief Minister of different steps that the district has undertaken for its people under Centre’s Aspirational District Programme.
Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister Dr. Sarma while thanking Union Minister J.P. Nadda for presenting the people of Darrang district the critical care centre said that the centre will be constructed with a financial outlay of Rs. 23.75 core. He also said that 28 such critical care centres will be set up across the state. The Chief Minister said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Darrang district is receiving unprecedented fillip for its development. Apart from the Skill University, State government is going to set up a medical college and hospital in Darrang district. Moreover, with regard to connectivity, NH 15 from Baihata Chariali to Tezpur, the entire stretch will be made four-lane. The Chief Minister on the occasion said that the benevolence of Union Minister JP Nadda is visible as the Brahmaputra Valley Fertilizer Corporation Limited in Namrup will be empowered with its capacity expansion for the production of fertilisers. Once completed the move will likely to provide a shot in the arm to the fertilizer production facility.
The Union Minister accompanied by Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma also visited Assam Cancer Hospital at Mangaldoi and inspected the facilities available there. He interacted with the people to seek their feedback on Assam’s modern healthcare system. Moreover, the Union Minister also reviewed several other projects in Darrang including the upcoming Assam Skill University. Nadda also visited Sipajhar Primary cum Community Health centre and First Referral Unit. He took stock of the facilities being provided at the FRU at Sipajhar.
During the visit along with the Chief Minister, Minister Health and Family Welfare Ashok Singhal, Minister for Scinece, Technology and Climate Change etc Minister Keshab Mahanta, Power Minister Prasanta Phukan, Commissioner and Secretary Health Education and Research Siddharth Singh CEO Assam Cancer Care Foundation Jay Prakash Prasad and other senior functionaries were present.
Later, the Chief Minister along with the Union Health Minister visited AIIMS Guwahati and attended a meeting where Union Minister took review of all aspects of AIIMS including its academic, infrastructure and faculty strength. Dr. Sarma requested the Union Minister for increasing the capacity of inpatient department of AIIMS Guwahati along with expeditious completion of its infrastructure projects.
Health and Family Welfare Minister Ashok Singhal, MLAs Bhabesh Kalita, Diganta Kalita, Director AIIMS Prof Ashok Puranik were present during the meeting.
Chief Minister Dr. Sarma also accompanied the Union Minister to Badminton Academy at the Amingaon Indoor Stadium and showed him the facilities put in place at the academy where coaches affiliated to Badminton Association of India impart coaching to the trainees.
