Kaziranga National Park and Tiger Reserve (KNPTR) in Assam has achieved a remarkable milestone, attracting a record 406,564 visitors in the fiscal year 2024-25. This includes 17,693 foreign tourists, marking a significant increase in both domestic and international tourism over the past decade.

Visitor numbers have surged dramatically, growing from 132,930 in 2014-15 to over four lakh in 2024-25. Foreign tourists now make up around 4.5% of the total visitors, underscoring Kaziranga’s increasing global appeal as a prime wildlife destination.

The rise in tourism has provided a major boost to the local economy, with projected revenue for 2024-25 reaching Rs. 10.90 crore, up from Rs. 2.85 crore a decade ago. This growth has revitalized local businesses, benefiting shops, restaurants, and accommodations in nearby areas.

Kaziranga’s international fame has been further cemented by visits from notable figures, including Bhutan’s King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuk and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who made history as the first PM to visit the park since it became a National Park in 1974. Additionally, Kaziranga has earned a spot on The New York Times’ list of “Must-See” world destinations.

Under the leadership of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, the Assam government is focusing on green tourism initiatives, including offering incentives for electric safari vehicles to promote sustainable tourism and conservation efforts in the region.
