Cycling Federation of India in association with Sports Authority of India under Khelo India, Govt. of India is organizing Khelo India Women’s Track Cycling event for Senior, Junior and Sub Junior Category in LNIPE, Tepesia, Guwahati on 14th-15th March 2023. The event is hosted in collaboration with the Cycling Association of Assam whereas Sports Authority of India is acting as the Primary Nodal agency for the event. Khelo India: National Programme for Development of Sports, branded as Khelo India, aims at improving India’s sports culture at the grass-root level through organized talent identification, structured sporting competitions and infrastructure development. It is a Government of India programme launched in 2017-18 under the tenure of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The league has coincided with International Women’s Day celebration with an effort to empower Women through Sports.
The event kick-started on Tuesday (14th March 2023) with great enthusiasm as a total of 50 cyclists from 7 states (Assam, Manipur, Orissa, Bihar, Jharkhand, UP and West Bengal) participated in the grand event which has total prize money of ₹3,00,000/ distributed through Sports Authority of India. The new national record for Women Elite Individual Pursuit was set today by Meenakshi who broke her own record by 2 seconds. The league consists of various events such as Sprint, Individual Pursuit, Keirin, Scratch and Time trial.
