The premiere of the much-awaited Local Kung Fu 3 was held at a packed Aideo Cinema Hall in Guwahati. Following a gap of 8 years since Local Kung Fu 2, the third instalment in the series was also a laugh riot, going back to the beloved characters of Local Kung Fu 1 in a new story. The audience at the premiere laughed and cheered throughout and were also surprised by the emotional moments in the story.
Director-Producer Kenny Deori Basumatary said that the film releasing on Teachers Day, 5th September, is a wonderful coincidence because the relationship between teachers and students is the most important part of the film. Bibhuti Bhushan Hazarika, playing an ideal teacher in the film, said, “This film has some very important messages, but all in the midst of fun and comedy, in typical Kenny style.” The premiere was attended by several well-known faces, including Lima Das, Harpal Saikia, and Moonmi Phukan. “With improved action choreography, sharper comic timing, and subtle political commentaries, the third installment in the ‘Local Kung Fu’ universe is yet another indigenous laugh riot.”, said Film reviewer Sujata Hati Baruah.
The music and songs are a very important part of Local Kung Fu 3. The soundtrack has 8 songs, performed by veterans like Achurjya Borpatra, Shashwati Phukan, Raaj Jyoti Konwar, Ambar Das and Neel Akash, as well as young upcoming singers like Janam Kashyap and Sruti & Sneha Sharma. The songs are available on all streaming platforms, with music videos for several of them on Youtube. The background music has some truly unique pieces, put together by Tony Deori Basumatary and Derrick Correia. Tony, who has won a Marathi Filmfare Award for best background music for the film Lapachhapi, also reprises his fan favourite role as Montu da in Local Kung Fu 3.
The action is another major highlight of the film, with a total of 38 fighters being hired from not only Guwahati but also Morigaon and Kokrajhar. Among the fighters is National Games Taekwondo bronze medallist Rishabh Choudhury, who along with his brother Ravi feature in an important sequence in the film.
The team has put together big fights without using any wires or cables. Kenny said, “We have one epic fight shot with 5 heroes and 24 goondas that goes on for 72 steps without cutting. That’s one of our highlights, as we wanted to show that a skilled team can put together great fights without a thousand cuts per minute.”
The team hopes that audiences enjoy watching the film as much as they enjoyed making it. Along with Assam, they’re also aiming to get shows in Naharlagun, Itanagar, Shillong and Dimapur from 5th September itself, and in the rest of India metros from 13th September.
