A Meeting with different puja committees of Kamrup Metropolitan District to discuss proposed draft Water (Prevention & Control of Pollution) Assam (Amendment) Rules-2022 relating to the matters of Idol Immersion was organized by Department of Environment and Forest, Govt. of Assam and Pollution Control Board, Assam on 9th November 2022 at Assam Administrative Staff College, Khanapara.
The meeting commenced with the introduction and felicitation of invited guests, who attended the meeting. Chandra Mohan Patowary, Minister, Environment & Forest Department, Government of Assam, chaired the meeting.
Chairman of the Board, Dr. Arup Kumar Misra, in his inaugural address highlighted on the issues related to draft Water (Prevention & Control of Pollution) Assam (Amendment) Rules-2022. He also emphasized on the roles and responsibilities of the Puja Committees in connection with the Idol Immersion.
Member Secretary of the Board, Dr. Shantanu Kr. Dutta, highlighted the key issues on the draft rule in his technical presentation. The Chairperson of the meeting Chandra Mohan Patowary, Minister, Environment & Forest Department, Government of Assam delivered a brief insight on the proposed draft rule. Akash Deep, IAS, Commissioner and Secretary to the Govt. of Assam, Environment and Forest Dept has also spoke about the various issues related to the proposed draft rule.
Quite a few members of the Puja Committees had also expressed their views on the draft rules relating Idol Immersion activities during Puja festival, besides clarifying certain doubts. The function attended by a number of senior Officials of the Govt. of Assam, members from different puja committees of Kamrup Metropolitan District and the media. The meeting ended with the vote of thanks by Nazneen Rahman, Asstt. Engineer, PCBA.
