Minister Ashok Singhal took charge today in a comprehensive review meeting, strategically assessing the advancements and challenges within the Housing and Urban Affairs as well as the Irrigation departments. The dynamic session delved into critical initiatives such as the Mukhyamantrir Sahaj Sahaj Griha Nirman Achani, the Swachh Bharat Mission [Urban], and pivotal water supply projects across urban zones in the state. The gathering, attended by key stakeholders including the Guwahati Metropolitan Development Authority, Guwahati Municipal Corporation, AMRUT, Assam Urban Water Supply and Sewerage Board, and more, showcased Singhal’s hands-on approach. Notable highlights encompassed the scrutiny of the integrated web portal of the Directorate of Municipal Administration, progress on constructing town halls, and housing initiatives for sanitation workers. Commissioner & Secretary, DoHUA Kavitha Padmanabhan, and GMC Commissioner Meghnidhi Dahal were present at the meeting.
In a parallel meeting with irrigation department officials, Singhal spearheaded a detailed evaluation of ongoing projects. Directives were issued to Additional Chief Engineers, emphasizing regular field visits to ensure the successful implementation of irrigation schemes. The minister urged a holistic approach, including the revival of defunct schemes, the formulation of new plans, and the compilation of comprehensive irrigation master plans for each district. Secretary Pabitra Ram Khaund and all Additional Chief Engineers of the Irrigation Department were present during the meeting.
