On the occasion of the 78th Independence Day celebrations on August 15, the Ministry of Defence will initiate an ambitious tree plantation drive, aiming to plant approximately 1.5 million trees nationwide. This initiative, part of the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ (A Tree in the Name of Mother) campaign, will be spearheaded by the three armed services along with affiliated organizations such as DRDO, Defense PSUs, CGDA, NCC, Sainik Schools, and Ordnance Factories.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh recently participated in this campaign by planting a tree in memory of his mother. He urged the public to join this significant effort, emphasizing the importance of environmental conservation and the need for active participation in protecting nature.

The ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign was officially launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on World Environment Day, June 5, 2024. The campaign sets an ambitious target of planting 800 million saplings by September 2024 and 1.4 billion saplings by March 2025. This large-scale initiative aims to enhance environmental protection and foster a sustainable future.
